Literary translation

Translating a work of literature or literary translation is considered art. This is because a well-executed translation of both prose and poetry should not be inferior in terms of artistic value to the original work. Achieving such a high level of equivalent impact on the readers is most justified by means of literal translation; because it is in this case that, the reader is acquainted with the original work in its original form and has the opportunity to evaluate the author’s unique style. However, quite often in the process of translation translators face challenges, in solving which they have to abandon literal translation and confine themselves to conveying the meaning and the spirit of the author’s work. It is important in this regard to choose translation solutions that in terms of brightness, simplicity and naturalness would correspond to those words and expressions, to that form of the original, which help to feel the author and understand his original intention, his objective. To put it mildly, it is not an easy task to accomplish and it is for this reason that many translators call the translation process of a piece of literature “translation torments”.
